Welcome Thöress!

The Thöress EHT MkII Integrated Amp.

Please join me in welcoming the Thöress brand to Old Forge Audio!

The first arrival from Germany via Phonographe Distribution in Canada (http://www.phonographe.ca) is the EHT MkII— a tube-MOSFET hybrid, single-ended integrated amplifier which eschews negative feedback whose styling is reminiscent of certain late ‘50s-early ‘60s Hi-Fi and lab equipment.

After a couple of weeks in-house, I’ve begun to think of it as the ‘More’ amplifier: It communicates more directly, getting straight to the musical essence of a piece with a greater than usual sense of what Art Dudley called touch. It reveals more emotion, more musical flow, more coherency, more precise timing, all of which adds up to a more grounded, you-are-there feeling, I suspect because there are fewer errors to distract and confuse your brain with ‘nah, this ain’t real’ clues.

I realize this may sound odd to those who have not experienced it. Those who have heard it are, by and large, highly impressed and a bit startled by it. Get in touch to set up a listening session for yourself. You’ll be glad you did.
